REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin asked his institution to stop using the term "Muslim" in explaining the spread of fake news case by the Family Muslim Cyber Army (MCA) group. He asserted Muslim did not reflect hoax.
"Those who deliver hate speech or hoax are irresponsible people and does not reflect the Muslims," he said in Central Jakarta on Friday (Marh 9).
Syafruddin asked the people not to associate Muslim with hoax. He felt offended with the association.
A number of suspects were shown during the press release of perpetrators who spread fake news and hatred at National Police Cyber Crime Unit, Jakarta, on Wednesday (Feb 28).
He believed Muslim will not do such a thing, especially spreading hoax. "I ordered the police and urged the media to stop mentioning "Muslim" in explaining the case," he said.
The police would be stern in combating hoax, Syafruddin said. So far, seven members of the Family MCA have been arrested in different cities.

Earlier, Chairman of the Nusantara Task Force police Ins. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono noted that the MCA had spread false news comprising insinuations, hate speeches, and attacks on religious leaders to create rifts.
"The motive is political in nature. By spreading hoaxes, they aim to denigrate the government, trigger public unrest, split the nation, and ultimately create a major social conflict," Gatot, an expert staff of the police chief for social economy, had noted on Monday (March 5).
